Neala's Facts

Neala was 7 weeks old when she was diagnosed with Persistent Right Aortic Arch, a congenital defect that needed surgery to fix.

In less then one week, through donations and contests, we collected the funds necessary to fix her PRAA and drove 7 hours to Salt Lake City, Utah, for her surgery.

She survived the surgery and bounced back enough that night that the doctors signed a release stating we could bring her home...

But things were not right and we returned to the hospital within an hour of being discharged... They kept her in the hospital to keep an eye on her overnight.

They realized that the food they had been feeding had pooled in her esophagus and was pushing into her lungs, causing her to go into respiratory distress. The plan was to insert a feeding tube the next morning...

Neala went into further respiratory distress and cardiac arrest around 2:17 AM on 7/1/2010.

We lost our girl... This is her story...

We fully support PRAA corrective surgery. Her loss was not due to the surgery, but due to the food she was fed afterwards.
